Take a Mental Health Day

With the recent verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse, many of us are in dire need of a mental health day.

Here are some tips to make sure that you are getting the most out of your mental health day:

Get started early

Your mental health day doesn’t start the morning of, it starts the night before. Make sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep ahead of your big day. If you struggle to sleep for the entire duration of the night, be sure to give yourself a 9-10 hour window in order to accommodate any sleep interruptions that you might experience.

Have attainable goals set for the day

A mental health day isn’t only meant for being in bed all day. Plan and take steps that will allow you to have a nice and balanced day, where you are able to be productive and build up your self-esteem.

Eat Breakfast

After your goals have been set, make yourself a nutritional breakfast. Unlike the days where you’re working and you only have time for a cup of coffee and toast, take your time and enjoy a delicious meal. This will fill your body with energy that will make you feel refreshed and ready for the day.

Exercise

Doing some light exercises can loosen your muscles and add some pep to your step. A healthy mind is important, but so is a healthy body. They go hand in hand.

Eat Lunch

Similar to breakfast, make sure that you are eating a nice and balanced lunch. Be sure to include some vegetables in your meal. The positive effects of vegetables can greatly impact your mental health.

Socialize

Be sure to stay connected with your friends and loved ones. Socializing is great for your mental health. Social isolation can lead to many forms of mental illness, including anxiety and depression. Involving yourself in group activities, even if they’re virtual, can do wonders for your state of mind.

Eat a light dinner

Eating a light dinner can greatly improve your metabolism and your quality of sleep. You never want to go to sleep feeling bloated, so cook a meal that is lean and satisfying.

Reflect and sleep

At the end of the night, be sure to reflect on the progress that you made throughout the day. Pat yourself on the back for your accomplishments and take notes of areas where you can continue to improve. This should ultimately allow for you to feel better about yourself and prepare you to take on the next day in a much better shape, both physically and mentally.
